FX-253 Trowel Grade Fiber Reinforced Polymer Mortar
MSDS Download
FX-253 was used in the following case studies:
- 17 Story High Rise Restored with Fox Products
- Steam Tunnel Restoration for GSA
- Restoration of Structural Integrity to Steam Vaults
- Rebuild Concrete Steam Vault
- Structural Restoration of Concrete Bases at Utility Substation
DESCRIPTION:
FX-253 Trowel Grade Fiber Reinforced Polymer Mortar is a two component, fiber reinforced trowelable patching mortar designed for overhead and vertical use. FX-253 is ready to use, with only the addition of polymer liquid which activates the hybrid modified cement. FX-253 has a special blend of proprietary polymers which produce zero shrinkage, with excellent bonding properties necessary for structural repairs Recommended application temperature is 40°F (4.4 C) and above.
ADVANTAGES:
- Excellent bond to clean masonry surfaces
- Can be applied from 1/8" min. to 1-1/2" max thickness. When thickness exceeds 1-1/2 inches, up to 15 lbs (6.8 Kilo) of dry 3/8" coarse aggregate may be added to a unit.
- Consistency of the material is controlled by the amount of polymer liquid added.
- Not a vapor barrier
- Extremely good abrasion resistance, with exceptionally low absorption
WHERE TO USE:
Patching mortar for: broken or spalled concrete, pavements, curbs, beams, underneath concrete bridges, repointing mortar and stucco. Overhead and vertical application - ideal for setting beds on uneven surfaces where good gap filling properties are essential. Most ideal for setting brick pavers and tiles outdoors and indoors.

SURFACE PREPARATION:
Remove all dirt, grease, oil, laitance and curing compounds from concrete, mortar and stone by waterblasting or mechanical roughening.
MIXING:
Pour 3/4 gallon (2.8 L) of polymer liquid in pail or mortar mixer. Mix with a heavy duty slow speed drill and paddle, while adding FX-253 Mortar powder slowly to avoid lumps. (Do not over mix, three minutes is sufficient). If a more plastic consistency is required, add additional acrylic latex to mix.
APPLICATION:
Masonry surfaces or other absorbent surfaces should be dampened to prevent moisture loss from FX-253 Mortar into hardened masonry. For outdoor use to improve bond, apply FX-752 Bonding Agent. For indoor use, apply FX-336 Rewettable Adhesion Promoter.
Trowel FX-253 in prepared area and allow mortar to stiffen, then produce desired finish by using float or rubber gloves, forcing mortar in voids. If steel trowel finish is required, wet trowel with water. Protect from wind and heat for the first 24 hours.
LIMITATIONS:
Protect polymer liquid from freezing; if frozen, discard. Store in cool, dry place. Lowest application temperature is 40°F (4.4 C) and rising at the time of application. Material should be stored at temperature of 40°F (4.4 C) or higher. For first 24 hours, protect from oil, acids and alkalies.
PACKAGING:

CAUTION:
FX-253 contains portland cement and silica sand. Cement powder or freshly mixed concrete, grout or mortar may cause skin injury. Avoid contact with skin; wash exposed areas promptly with water. Avoid breathing dust when handling and mixing. Cleanliness is required. In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with water. If contact with eye is made, flush with water and consult physician. Always wear eye protection when working materials on vertical or overhead surfaces.
FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN. 1/2002
