FX-521 Membrane Waterproofing and Reinforced Membrane Waterproofing
DESCRIPTION:
FX-521 Membrane Waterproofing and Reinforced Membrane Waterproofing is a two-component, modified elastomeric material. After mixing and curing it forms a tough, flexible waterproof membrane.
FX-521 Membrane is applied to horizontal surfaces of concrete, steel or wood to prevent penetration of moisture and other deleterious substances. Typical applications are between slab waterproofing above and below grade.
FX-521 may be applied in one coat up to 30 mil thickness on vertical surfaces without sag. For applications greater than 30 mils, specify FX-522, a special order product.
ADVANTAGES:
FX-521 when used with inorganic fiber reinforcement, provides a puncture and tear resistant shield to bridge construction joints and fine cracks.

MIXING:
Combine equal amounts of Components A and B in clean container. Mix 2 - 3 minutes with low speed drill and an FX Mixing Paddle. Apply immediately after mixing.
APPLICATION:
Prior to applying membrane, the surface to receive membrane must be dry, clean and sound, all construction joints and cracks that are sizable must be bridged with fiberglass reinforcing cloth.
To produce a membrane, apply by brush, roller, spray or squeegee. For best results, two coats are recommended.
If reinforced cloth is used, it shall be embedded in the first coat of membrane while it still in a liquid state. A grooved aluminum or plastic roller can be used for this purpose. After the first coat of membrane and reinforcement has become tack-free, a second coat of membrane shall be applied.
COVERAGE:
On smooth concrete 80 sq. ft./G without reinforcement (6.04 m2/3.785 1)
LIMITATIONS:
FX-521 has an odor. If used indoors where such odor might be objectionable, it is recommended that the material is tested before use to determine the appropriateness of its use. Material temperature at time of mixing must be a minimum of 60°F (16°C), and surfaces to receive material must be a minimum of 40°F (4°C).
Once the container has been opened, the entire contents should be used as resealing may cause moisture, contamination and skinning. When used in confined areas, good ventilation must be provided. Damp surfaces could be detrimental to the performance of FX-521.
PACKAGING:
FX-521 is packaged in 2-gallon (7.57 liter) and 10-gallon (37.85 liter) units. FX-521 Primer for metal surfaces is available in 1-quart (.946 liter), 1-gallon (3.785 liter), and 5-gallon containers (18.925 liters).
CAUTION:
FX-521 contain coal tar and organic isocyanates. These are considered irritants. Provide adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing vapors. Contact with skin or eyes must be avoided. Wear protective clothing, gloves and/or protective cream and goggles. Wash thoroughly with soap and water or a waterless skin cleaner prior to smoking or eating. In case of contact with eyes, flush immediately with water and contact a physician. If swallowed, call a physician immediately.
