FX-500 Elastomeric Roof Mastic
DESCRIPTION:
FX-500 Elastomeric Roof Mastic is an acrylic elastomer manufactured to produce the ultimate in a cold-applied single component roof membrane. It is ideal for commercial, industrial, or residential roofs made up of asphalt shingle, precast concrete, multi-ply built-up asphalt roofing, metal or plywood roofing. FX-500 one-component material is easily applied and safe to use.
ADVANTAGES:
- FX-500 bonds tenaciously to existing, clean roofs with minimal surface preparation. When applied to asphalt roofing, cleaning of the asphalt is a must. Use a water blaster with 2000 to 3500 psi water pressure.
- When used over deteriorated roof shingles, surface preparation requires merely the removal of debris by sweeping the roof, or using compressed air to blow it off. The FX-500 Roof Coating prevents shingles from lifting off during high winds.
- Can be applied to conventional building roofs, polyurethane foam, concrete, plywood, asphalt shingles, and metal roofs. When used on metal, the surface of the metal must be cleaned with 2000 to 3500 psi water blaster and primed with FX-509 Rust Inhibitive Coating.
- Reduces labor costs, being one component; is easily applied by brush, spray, roller, or squeegee.
- During normal temperatures, fifteen (15) minutes after application, roof is waterproof due to the rapid skinning of FX-500. FX-500 is not affected when applied to a hot roof.
- No offensive odor or melting pot common to hot-applied asphalt roofing.
- No volatile organic solvent (VOC) emission.
- Maintains reflectivity and decreases interior temperature, thus reducing cost of energy.
- In warm weather, a white surface is 25°F to 30°F cooler than a black surface.
- For best results, roof surface must have good runoff and smooth surface.
- Exhibits excellent durability and U.V. resistance.
- Resists cracking and maintains flexibility at low temperatures.
- Tools and hands are easily cleaned with soap and water before cure.

SURFACE PREPARATION:
For best results, remove all loose material and any oily substances before applying FX-500 to surface. Surface must be clean, sound, and dry prior to FX-500 applications. When used on steel roofs, a screen (primer) such as FX-509 Rust Inhibitive Coating should be applied first. For ultimate corrosion resistance, use FX-406 Zinc Rich Primer. Open seams, joints, or flashing should be sealed with a material such as FX-516 Single Component Elastomeric Sealant. Blisters and soft spots in existing roof should be cut open and allowed to dry. These areas should then be patched with conventional roof patching materials.
APPLICATION:
Stir contents before application. Apply FX-500 uniformly by brush, roller or spray. To spray we recommend GRACO Bulldog® 40:1 Airless Spray Equipment with a 635 Tip. A field test is recommended to insure results. Allow first coat to cure a minimum of 12 hours before applying 2nd coat.
PACKAGING:
FX-500 is packaged in one (1) gallon cans, five (5) gallon pails, and fifty-five (55) gallon drums.
COVERAGE:
50 - 65 square feet per gallon. For best results apply two coats.
LIMITATIONS:
FX-500 should not be applied at temperatures below 50°F. FX-500 should not be applied in rain or rain-threatening weather. FX-500 is not intended for traffic bearing surface waterproofing. PROTECT FROM FREEZING PRIOR TO USE!
CAUTION:
SYNTHETIC AQUEOUS EMULSION LATEX POLYMER. CAUTION! DO NOT TAKE INTERNALLY! Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged contact with skin. Wear chemical-resistant gloves. Use with adequate ventilation. If sprayed, avoid breathing mist or vapors by wearing mask.
FIRST AID:
In case of eye contact, flush with plenty of water at once. If irritation persists, see a physician. Wash skin with plenty of soap and water at first opportunity. If swallowed, induce vomiting and call a physician at once.
