FX-778 High Strength Epoxy Trowelable Filler

Download PDF of FX-778

DESCRIPTION:

FX-778 is a two-component, moisture- tolerant, high strength, high modulus epoxy resin system. FX-778 is thixotropic and used as a filler for concrete repair prior to impregnating resin with various fiber reinforcements.FX-778 is compatible with carbon, steel or glass fibers. Its creamy consistency is easy to apply and stays in place when used for vertical and overhead applications. It penetrates and bonds reinforcements like the FX-Carbon Wrap System, and Hardwire®.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Long working time.
  • Creamy consistency is easy to mix and apply.
  • Thixotropic version ideal for overhead and vertical applications.
  • Tolerant of moisture before, during and after cure.
  • Excellent adhesion to concrete, masonry metals, wood and most structural materials.
  • Fully compatible and developed specifically for the FX-Carbon Wrap System and the Hardwire® family of reinforcements.
  • High creep resistance.
  • High abrasion and shock resistance.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Substrate must be clean, sound, and free of surface moisture. Remove dust, laitance, grease, oils, curing compounds, waxes, impregnations, foreign particles, coatings and disintegrated materials by mechanical means, i.e. high pressure water or abrasive blasting. For best results, substrate should be dry. However a saturated surface dry condition is acceptable.

MIXING:

Mix ratio 2 A to 1 B by volume. Stir B component. Pour contents of part B into part A. Mix thoroughly for 3 minutes using an FX-Mixing Paddle on low speed (400-600 rpm) until uniformly blended. Scrape sides and bottom to insure complete mixing.

APPLICATION:

For best results condition material to 65-75°F (18-24°C) before use. One gallon unit of FX-778 Trowelable Filler will cover approximately 80 square feet (7.4 m) at a 20 mil thickness. Depending on usage, apply with trowel, putty knife or squeegee. Work into properly prepared surface.

FX-778 may also be used as an impregnating resin for vertical and horizontal surfaces, apply FX-778 directly onto the substrate at a rate of 40-50 sq. ft/gallon, depending on the surface profile. Carefully place the fabric (FX-3000 Carbon Fiber Wrap) or Hardwire®, into FX-778 with gloved hand and smooth out. Use a plastic laminating roller to work out any irregularities or air pockets. Insure that the resin squeezes out of the rovings of the fabric. If more than one layer of fabric is required, apply FX-778 at rate of 40-50 sq. ft/gallon and repeat process. A final layer of FX-778 can be added at a rate of 100 sq.ft/gallon.

CAUTION:

"A" Component contains epoxy resin. DANGER! "B" Component contains alkaline amines; strong sensitizer. May cause skin sensitization or other allergic responses. Use with good ventilation, particularly if material is heated or sprayed. Prevent all contact with skin or eyes. Wear protective clothing, goggles, gloves and/or barrier creams. Keep container closed when not in use. Wash thoroughly after handling.

FIRST AID:

In case of skin contact, immediately wash with soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least fifteen (15) minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse.
