FX-456 Water Based Curing Compound, Sealer and Bonding Agent is a two-component water based epoxy curing agent that is used to both cure and seal concrete and to bond freshly placed concrete to existing concrete. FX-456 is easily pigmented.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Water based - Low V.O.C.
  • Excellent adhesion to damp concrete
  • Prevents intrusion of water, salts and chlorides
  • Easy to use 1 to 1 mix ratio
  • Can be brushed, rolled or sprayed
  • Long pot life
  • No reduction needed for spraying
  • Easy water cleanup

WHERE TO USE:

FX-456 can be used as a sealer/curing compound for freshly placed "wet" concrete. FX-456 is chemical resistant and can be used on concrete parapet walls, bridge pier caps, concrete floors in food processing areas and other areas of concrete where curing is required with chemical resistant properties.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Surfaces to receive FX-456 may be dry or damp but do not apply in standing water. Before applying FX-456 on freshly placed concrete surfaces, wait for bleed water or visible water sheen to evaporate. When used as a bonding agent, weak concrete surfaces and laitance should be removed by shotblasting or other suitable methods. Oil or tar should be removed with FX Masonry Cleaner.

MIXING:

Combine (1) one part by volume of Component "A" with (1) one part by volume of Component "B". Mix for a minimum of (3) three minutes with a low speed electric drill and a FX Mixing Paddle. Allow 15 minutes for induction in a covered container before applying. After the 15-minute induction period, stir again with the slow speed power drill. Clean equipment with soap and water.

APPLICATION:

FX-456 Water Based Epoxy Curing Compound and Sealer can be applied by brush, roller or spray. Apply within 2 hours of mixing. All spray equipment must employ traps to prevent unclean water and oil from contaminating the FX-456. Ambient and surface temperatures must be a minimum of 50°F and a maximum of 90°F. FX-456 can be sprayed with a Graco GH 533, 30:1 Bulldog Sprayer or comparable airless sprayer. Use a .030-.040 fan tip depending on desired output rate.

Curing Compound: When applying to fresh Concrete (wet), wait until all troweling operations are complete and the top surface will not be marred by the application and apply promptly.

Sealing: If the concrete was cured with FX-456 and it is still in good shape, simply clean off all foreign matter and recoat with FX-456. If the surface has never been coated or if curing compound has worn off, apply FX-456 and allow first coat to dry overnight. Apply additional coat of FX-456 if desired, allow to dry overnight before application of each coat. In areas with poor ventilation, wait an additional time.

COVERAGE:

FX-456 will cover:

  • Curing: 200 sq. ft. per gallon for first coat
  • Sealing: 150-200 sq. ft. per gallon for prime coat. 200 sq ft per gallon for subsequent coats.
  • Bonding Agent: 75 to 100 sq. ft. per gallon.

SHELF LIFE:

2 years

CAUTION:

This coating is not designed to be submerged in chemicals for long periods, nor is it meant to be subjected to temperatures above 130°F. Avoid driving, parking rubber tire vehicles, or using the surface for storage until thoroughly cured for 7 days. FX-456 forms a vapor barrier after cure. Do not apply to surfaces where vapor pressure is excessive or condenses and freezes under coating. Do not apply over standing water. Read Material Safety Data before using.

"A" Component contains epoxy resin. "B" Component contains alkaline amines; strong sensitizer. May cause skin sensitization or other allergic responses. Use with good ventilation, particularly if material is heated or sprayed. Prevent all contact with skin or eyes. Wear protective clothing, goggles, gloves and/or barrier creams. Keep container closed when not in use. Wash thoroughly after handling.

FIRST AID:

In case of skin contact, immediately wash with soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least fifteen (15) minutes. Remove contaminated clothing shoes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse.
