FX-533 Flexible Epoxy Resin Topping
DESCRIPTION:
FX-533 Flexible Epoxy Resin Topping is a 100% solids, modified epoxy. When combined with hard aggregate, FX-533 provides a tough traffic bearing system. Flexibility is built into the back bone of the epoxy and does not migrate as the system ages. This means that the product remains flexible and continues to perform for many years. The use of a hard aggregate provides abrasion resistance and skid inhibition properties. Various topcoats can be specified to provide protection against water, oils, chemicals and ultraviolet light.
ADVANTAGES:
- Flexible, bridges hairline cracks.
- Can be applied to concrete, steel or wood substrates.
- Exhibits excellent shear and tear strength.
- Cures quickly to reduce down time.
- 100% solids
- Zero VOC
- Abrasion resistant
- Slip resistant
- Waterproof
- Chemical and stain resistant
USES:
Bridges, Pedestrian walkways, Patios, Balconies, Mezzanines, Ramps

SURFACE PREPARATION:
GENERAL:
FX-533 Flexible Epoxy Resin Topping can be applied to a variety of substrates, if the substrate is properly prepared. Preparation of surfaces other than concrete will depend on the type of substrate, such as steel, wood, concrete block, quarry tile, etc. Should there be any questions regarding a specific substrate or condition, please contact Fox Industries.
Concrete surfaces shall be water or abrasive blasted to remove all surface contaminants and laitance. The prepared concrete shall have a surface profile equal to 40-60 grit sandpaper.
After initial preparation has occurred, inspect the concrete for bug holes, voids, fins and other imperfections. Protrusions shall be ground smooth while voids shall be filled with a system compatible filler. For recommendations, consult Fox Industries Technical Services Division.
TEMPERATURE:
Throughout the application process, substrate temperature should be 60°F - 90°F. Substrate temperature must be at least 5°F above the dew point. Applications on concrete substrate should occur while temperature is falling to lessen off gassing. The material should not be applied in direct sunlight, if possible.
MIXING:
Stir A (white) Component before combining with B (black) Component. Mix entire content of B Component with A Component using a FX-Mixing Paddle and slow speed drill for a minimum of (3) three minutes until thoroughly mixed. Avoid entrapping air while mixing. Mixed color will be dark gray.
APPLICATION:
On Steel: Prepare surface to near white metal blast. Apply a primer coat of FX-533 Flexible Epoxy Resin neat by squeegee and/or roller at the rate of 160 sq. ft per gallon (10 mils WFT). Allow to dry for minimum of 3 hours at 72°F. Apply 2nd coat of the FX-533 Flexible Epoxy Resin by squeegee and/or roller at a rate of 80 sq. ft. per gallon (20 mils WFT). Immediately, while the FX-533 is still wet, broadcast chosen aggregate into wet epoxy, at an approximate rate of 1 lb. per square foot. Wait a minimum of (3) three hours or until the FX-533 is allowed to harden and remove excess broadcast aggregate. Apply 3rd coat of the FX-533 Flexible Epoxy Resin by squeegee and/or roller at a rate of 20 sq. ft. per gallon (WFT not applicable due to rebroadcasting). Immediately, while the FX-533 is still wet, broadcast chosen aggregate into wet epoxy, at an approximate rate of 1 lb. per square foot. Wait a minimum of (3) three hours or until the FX-533 is allowed to harden and remove excess broadcast aggregate. Actual coverage rate may vary depending upon aggregate used.
CLEAN UP:
Wash equipment and tools with FX-Tool & Equipment Cleaner (immediately after use or before coating cures).
PACKAGING:
(2) gallon and 20 gallon units. 200 gallon drum set packaging available.
STORAGE:
FX-533 Flexible Epoxy Resin Topping should be stored in a dry area between 65°F and 90°F.
CAUTION:
"A" Component - Contains Epoxy Resin. May cause skin sensitization or other allergic responses. Avoid inhalation of vapor. Use good ventilation, particularly if material is heated or sprayed. Prevent all contact with skin and eyes. If skin is contacted, wash immediately with soap and water. If eyes are contacted, flush immediately with water and consult a physician.
"B" Component - Contains Amine Compounds. In case of contact, immediately flush eyes or skin with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. Call a physician. Wash clothing before reuse. Discard contaminated shoes.
