FX-455 was used in the following case studies:

DESCRIPTION:

FX-455 Water Based Epoxy Coating is a two component 100% reactive water based multi functional epoxy resin coating.

FX-455 gives the high performance of a cross linked epoxy in a safe, water borne coating. FX-455 provides excellent resistance to salt intrusion, and excellent adhesion to most common construction substrates.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Water Based - No Flammable Solvent
  • VOC compliant
  • Fast curing at ambient temperatures (75°F)
  • Adhesion to damp concrete
  • Chemical resistance over a variety of substrates
  • Excellent chloride ion resistance
  • Can be brushed, rolled or sprayed
  • Does not need to be reduced for spraying

WHERE TO USE:

FX-455 can be used as protective coating on concrete, wood, steel, or galvanized metal. FX-455 can be used where salt, base and acid conditions are prevalent such as: marine environments, chemical and industrial plants, power plants, food processing areas, concrete parapet walls, bridge pier caps and concrete floors.

FX-455 pigmented coating can be applied to concrete as early as three days after placement. FX-455 is available in a variety of colors. The standard colors of FX-455 are white, beige, and gray. Other colors are available as special order products.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

Steel Surface - Steel surfaces should be dry grit or sand blasted to a commercial gray metal finish as specified by the Steel Structures Painting Council SP 6. All work blasted shall be coated the same day with FX-408 Zinc Rich Primer. For immersion service, blast to near white blast SSPC SP-10.

Concrete Surface - Concrete surfaces shall be cleaned to remove dirt, curing compounds, existing coatings or laitance to provide a clean, sound bonding surface. Cleaning may be accomplished with FX-Masonry Cleaner and water blasting, acid etching and water blasting, sandblasting, or other methods that would achieve a similar result.

MIXING:

Stir Component "B" thoroughly before mixing.
Combine 2 parts by volume of "A" with 1 part by volume of "B" (mixing ratio 2:1). Mix for, not less than 3 minutes with a slow speed drill (300 to 600 rpm), and a FX-Mixing Paddle. Mix until uniform, scrape sides and bottom to insure thorough mixing. When mixing has been completed, cover mixed material and allow an induction time of not less than 30 minutes before application.

APPLICATION:

FX-455 Water Based Epoxy Coating may be applied by brush, roller or spray. All spray equipment must employ traps to prevent water and oil from contaminating coating. Apply at range of 120-200 sq.ft/gallon depending on DFT requirements.

Clean up equipment immediately after use with soap and water. For spray equipment contact a Fox Industries Technical Representative for recommendations.

SHELF LIFE:

2 years

COVERAGE:

FX-455 will cover approximately 200 sq. ft./gal/coat depending upon surface texture. For best results, apply two (2) coats.

CAUTION:

"A" Component contains epoxy resin. May cause skin sensitization or other allergic responses. Use with good ventilation, particularly if material is heated or sprayed. Prevent all contact with skin or eyes. Wear protective clothing, goggles, gloves and/or barrier creams. Keep container closed when not in use. Wash thoroughly after handling.

"B" Component contains alkaline amines; strong sensitizer.

Keep container closed. Use with adequate ventilation. Wash thoroughly after handling.

FIRST AID:

In case of skin contact, immediately wash with soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least fifteen (15) minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse.

FOR INDUSTRIAL USE ONLY. KEEP AWAY FROM CHILDREN. 10/2005
