FX-228 High Early Non-Metallic Non-Shrink Grout
MSDS Download
FX-228 was used in the following case studies:
- Steam Tunnel Restoration for GSA
- Restoration of Structural Integrity to Steam Vaults
- Rebuild Concrete Steam Vault
DESCRIPTION:
FX-228® High Early Non-Metallic Non-Shrink Grout is a blend of Portland cement, siliceous aggregates and specialized fluidifiers. This high performance grout, even when placed at a flowable consistency, provides rapid strength development, complete shrinkage correction, and excellent bond to various substrates. FX-228® is resistant to salt water and de-icing chemicals.
SPECIFICATIONS:
Compliance with ASTM C-1107 and Corps of Engineers CRD-C 621 Grades A, B and C.
WHERE TO USE:
Machine base plates, anchor bolts, column bearings, bridge bearing seats, prestress deck beam keyway grout, shrinkage. FX-228® is highly recommended for use in marine environment for tremie mortar or concrete, for encapsulation of wood, concrete or steel piles.
ADVANTAGES:
FX-228® is ready-to-use; just add clean water and mix to the desired consistency. Use as little water as possible, as increasing water reduces strength.
HOW TO USE:
FX-228® can be mixed with up to 1.30 gallons of water per 55 lb. (25 kg.) bag of mix, which will produce an extremely fluid, yet non-shrinking grout. FX-228® will maintain its fluidity for up to an hour without continued mixing. After FX-228® has been placed, it should receive wet burlap curing or some other suitable curing method for at least 24 hours.

COVERAGE:
Each 55 lb. (25-kg.) bag will yield approximately .50 cubic feet (14,159 cu. cm.) of grouting mortar at a pourable, fluid consistency.
SET TIME:
Initial set time is approximately 4 hours @ 70°F (21°C), permitting adequate time for placement and strapping, if necessary.
SHELF LIFE:
One (1) year
LIMITATIONS:
FX-228® should not be used at temperatures below 35°F (2°C). For economical purposes when lift thickness exceeds 3 inches, up to 25 lbs (11 kg) of 3/8" coarse aggregate may be added to the grout mix. Do not exceed 1.30 gallons (4.92L) of water per 55 lb. (25 kg) bag.
CAUTION:
WARNING! CONTAINS FREE SILICA & PORTLAND CEMENT. DO NOT BREATHE DUST. May cause delayed lung injury (silicosis). Follow O.S.H.A. safety and health standards for crystalline silica (quartz). Cement powder or freshly-mixed concrete, grout or mortar may cause skin injury. Avoid contact with skin and wash exposed skin areas promptly with water. If any cement powder or mixture gets into the eyes, rinse immediately and repeatedly with water and get prompt medical attention.
