DESCRIPTION:

FX-349 Fluidifier & Expanding Agent is a grouting aid for Portland cement. It increases fluidity and produces a slow, controlled expansion prior to hardening. FX-349 is used whenever a non-settling grout of superior quality is required. It is a balanced blend of expanding, fluidifying, and water-reducing agents. FX-349, a gray powder, does not contain calcium chloride, nitrates or other chemicals potentially contributing to stress corrosion in prestressing steel.

ADVANTAGES:

Fluidity: FX-349 grout is very fluid, workable, cohesive and homogenous. There is little migration of cement paste when pumped or placed under water.

Versatility: FX-349 may be used in all grouts incorporating Type I, Type II, or Type III cement, with or without pozzolanic materials, and with or without fine aggregate.

Expansion: A gaseous expansion occurs within the grout before initial set. This expansion forces grout into close contact with contingent surfaces. This expansion ceases when grout hardens.

Mixing: Mixing should be in accordance with the Prestressed Concrete Institute's standards as follows:

  1. Water should be added to the mixer first, followed by Portland cement, fly ash, admixture and sand, as required.
  2. Mixing should be of such duration as to obtain a uniform, thoroughly blended grout, without excessive temperature increase.
  3. No water may be added to the grout to increase flowability which has been decreased by delayed use of grout.
  4. It is essential that the water content of the grout be kept as low as possible. The water content should generally be less than 5-1/4 gallons per bag of cement.

APPLICATION:

Normal applications include grouting of prestressed tendons, machinery bases, and pre-placed aggregates. Water requirements will be 5 to 10% lower than that of a plain grout of equal fluidity. Batches should be limited in size so that placement can be completed within one (1) hour so that expansion will occur after the grout is placed.

Form Work: Where areas to be grouted require form work, forms should be tight and well-fitted. Top forms should be used where open areas occur. When using FX-349, expansion of the grout should be restrained in order to produce the highest possible density, bond and strength. Unformed, exposed surfaces will have a substantially lower strength for a limited depth.

Admixture for Grout: All grout shall contain FX-349 in the proportion of one (1) percent by weight of cementitious materials. FX-349 is manufactured by Fox Industries, Baltimore, Maryland.

Pumping: All pumps and hose fittings should be watertight to prevent loss of water and subsequent clogging.

NOTE: For grouting of prestressed tendons, follow recommended practices of the Prestressed Concrete Institute. For grouting of rocks, fissures, pre-placed or natural aggregate, follow standard construction practices or consult our Technical Sales Department for definite recommendations.

PACKAGING:

FX-349 is available in 50-pound bags.

SHELF LIFE:

CAUTION:

WARNING! Contact with dust causes irritation of eyes and skin. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid breathing dust. Avoid contact with eyes or skin. If overcome from inhalation, remove to fresh air. If not breathing, apply artificial respiration, preferably month-to-mouth. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. Call a physician.

In case of contact, flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and get prompt medical attention; wash skin thoroughly with soap and water.
