FX-32 SF Micro Silica Fume Admixture for Concrete and Cement Grout

DESCRIPTION:

FX-32 Micro Silica Fume Admixture for Concrete and Cement Grout is a synergized pozzolanic admixture which produces high strength concrete with corrosion resistant properties. FX-32 Silica Fume is particularly for use outdoors and in marine environments. It is available in liquid and powder form. FX-32 Silica Fume meets ASTM C 1240-95.

ADVANTAGES:

FX-32 in fresh concrete provides improvement in workability, pumpability, cohesion, adhesion, gives reduced bleeding, increased abrasion resistance and a very fine surface finish. FX-32 increases the durability of concrete in adverse environments. The addition of FX-32 has proven beneficial for concrete structures subjected to severe environmental attack, such as aggressive ground conditions, marine exposure, chemical attack and frost attack. FX-32 produces high strength concrete for high-rise construction.

WHERE TO USE:

FX-32 Silica Fume is used in precast, prestressed, cast-in-place concrete in particular, where the concrete or mortar is exposed to deicing chemicals and salt spray. It is also used where very high strength concrete or mortar is required such as for foundations, post tension or prestressed grout, bridge decks, parking garages, marine piling, loading docks, platforms, in rapid transit or light rail stations and rail ties. FX-32 Silica Fume is highly recommended for use as an overlay 1/2" (12.7 mm), 3/4" (19.1 mm) and 1" (25.4 mm) thick. FX-32 Silica Fume will reduce rebound in shotcrete (gunite)

APPLICATION:

It is recommended that FX-32 Silica Fume be added to concrete or mortar on site since all admixtures are most efficient when added at the jobsite. This procedure prevents the loss of potency during transportation to the jobsite. FX-32 Silica Fume must be agitated before every use.

MIXING:

A trial mix should be performed to determine the amount of water needed to produce zero slump concrete. After mixing for 2 to 3 minutes, add 1-1/2 gallon ( 5.68 L) of FX-32 Silica Fume per sack of cement, or for every 100 lbs. (45.36 Kg) of cement. One gallon of FX-32 Silica Fume liquid weighs 11.5 (5.22 Kg) pounds. However, more or less of the FX-32 may be used. Should the slump of the concrete be too high, cut the added water to adjust for the specified slump. In hot weather, normally 5% more water is required than in cold weather to produce an equal slump.

The use of FX-32 Silica Fume will permit water reduction of 15-20%, depending on the brand of cement used. Since the amount of air added in terms of liquid ounces will determine the amount of air produced in the concrete, a vinsol resin type air entraining admixture is highly recommended, such as FX-340 Air-Entraining Admixture, to produce 6.5 +/- 1% air. The vinsol resin type air entraining agent will permit the use of various amounts of air, depending on the brand of cement used. For best results, mix dosing should be prepared before actual concreting takes place to determine the amount of admixture to be used, air content required and slump to produce the desired consistency of the concrete or cement grout.

SHELF LIFE:

2 years in original packaging. Protect from freezing.

CAUTION:

WARNING! Contains silicon dioxide. Avoid breathing dust. NIOSH approved respirators should be used when handling FX-32 Micro Silica Fume Powder. As with any other admixture, care should be taken to prevent material from splashing on hands, skin, or in eyes. In case of skin contact, wash thoroughly with soap and water. In case of eye contact, flush with water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention.
