FX-531
Flexible Epoxy Coating

DESCRIPTION:

FX-531 is a 100% solids flexible epoxy coating. FX-531 when applied to steel facilitates flexing to move with the steel from vibration or temperature change. FX-531 is used as a traffic bearing membrane or non-skid coating that retains color and physical properties when exposed to harsh conditions. FX-531 cures at ambient temperatures and is impermeable to moisture, oils, mild acids, gasoline, and alkalies.

ADVANTAGES:

  • Can be applied to concrete, steel or wood substrates.
  • Protects concrete surfaces from deterioration caused by wet/dry and freeze/thaw cycles.
  • Protects steel surfaces from corrosion.
  • Exhibits excellent shear and tear strength.
  • Will withstand temperature extremes from -20°F to +180°F.

SURFACE PREPARATION:

On Steel: Prepare in accordance with Steel Structures Painting Council Surface Preparation SSPC-SP6 metal blast cleaning. All work blasted should be coated the same day.

On Concrete: Concrete surfaces should be water or abrasive blasted to remove dirt, curing compounds, existing coatings or laitance to provide a clean sound bonding surface. Prime concrete surface with FX-Multi Purpose Primer Concentrate at approximately 250 square feet per gallon. FX-Multi Purpose Primer Concentrate is a water based treatment. Mix 1 quart with 5 gallons of tap water and apply immediately. Allow to dry tack-free for 30 minutes before applying FX-531 Coating.

MIXING:

Stir B Component before combining with A Component. Mix material to the proper ratio, 3A to 1B by volume with a mixing paddle and slow speed drill for a minimum of 3 minutes until thoroughly mixed. Avoid entrapping air while mixing. Apply immediately after mixing.

APPLICATION:

Apply first coat of FX-531 by roller or brush at a rate of 50 sq. ft. per gallon. Film thickness approximately 16 mils wet and dry. Wait a minimum of 8 hours or a maximum of 5 days before applying second coat of FX-531 Apply second coat of FX-531 at a rate of 50 sq. ft. per gallon and immediately, while second coat is wet, broadcast FX-701 Filler at a rate of approximately 1 pound per sq/ ft. Wait a minimum of 8 hours at 70°F and remove excess FX-701.

CLEAN UP:

Wash equipment and tools with FX-Epoxy Cleaner (immediately after use or before coating cures.)

LIMITATIONS:

Thinning may result in loss of adhesion of cured material and promote rapid deterioration protective properties. Do not apply FX-531 on surfaces below 50°F. Lower temperatures will prolong curing considerably.

SHELF LIFE:

2 years

PACKAGING:

4 gallon and 20 gallon unit

STORAGE:

FX-531 should be stored in a dry area between 65°F and 90°F.

CAUTION:

"A" Component contains epoxy resin. DANGER! "B" Component contains alkaline amines; strong sensitizer. May cause skin sensitization or other allergic responses. Use with good ventilation, particularly if material is heated or sprayed. Prevent all contact with skin or eyes. Wear protective clothing, goggles, gloves and/or barrier creams. Keep container closed when not in use. Wash thoroughly after handling.

FIRST AID:

In case of skin contact, immediately wash with soap and water. in case of eye contact, flush eyes with copious amounts of water for at least fifteen (15) minutes. Remove contaminated clothing and shoes. If irritation persists, seek medical attention. Wash clothing before reuse.
